The Street bike gets a dirt touch.
The 2009 Shonky was more of a street riding bike, with v-brakes and a rigid front fork. Kona has decided to spec the Shonky with a more well rounded build kit. The Shonky for 2010 has a much more dirt, street, and park ready build.

kona finally has a well done dirt jump frame! looks sick
saw luis's bike at the bike store the other day hes down in kam to shoot for nwd 10, his shonky looked sooo nice
my questing why the f*ck would they have 2 different colored rims on the shonky thats just stupid once again kona doing a bang up job
I don't know about those plastic pedals. Might be light but I don't think they will perform very good.

cons: the 2 things i would change on the Lacon. frame are the drop outs, too shitty, and the headtube, they should run integrated.
pros: definitely liking the paintjob and the integrated seat clamp under the top chainstay. unique!

i dunno, look how big the headtube looks, it could be integrated, just without the flanges. and the shonky is, so if the lacon bike wasnt that would be weird.
The random lime green front wheel looks terrible... its way too out of place when put up against the rest of the bike. Why didnt they put matching rims on teh shonky?
Its for all the fat kids that you see riding shocky's the money they save only painting one rim lets them make the back stronger for when twinky wants to try 3's

umm.. has anyone noticed in the first picture they have the stand for the bike clamped onto the from,, quote me if im wrong but doesnt that put pressure on the frame and weaken the frame,, shouldnt you have it clamped onto the seat post?(like in the title picture). Thats what i have learnt.
it's cromoly. and they probably didnt clamp it that hard. but it's steel, the frame should withstand a little punishment
So... in all reality the bike is now less suited to street and park, the riding I'm assuming it was made for, and is apparently better for dirt, which Kona already has the Cowan for (unless they've discontinued it).
To be honest, I'd rather have a rigid fork and V-brakes than a DJ3, for street anyway.
P.S. It's an integrated headset, not an internal one.

I like the Lacon frame, but why in the photo of the Lacondeguy decal does the 'Lacondeguy' have and 'e' on the end?
It's like how the Kona Bass has a double s, like a 'bass' guitar, not a Paul Bas sig bike?

And a halflink chain.
Guess they're looking at all the trendy kids and thinking, "hey, lets get a piece of the action!"
Too bad halflink chains suck, and the YBN 918 especially so.
Also, they might call those plastic pedals "Kona Jackshit", but if you know anything, you will instantly recognize regular Wellgo plastics that cost like 15 bucks. You can still see the Wellgo logo in the pics in that oval on the spindle area.

Actually, when you look closer at this whole writeup, it seems either half the info Pinkbike was given is incorrect, or they just made it up as they went along. "Custom saddle"? And where's the chainring guard that they claim is on there?
Also, man, that chainwheel looks amazingly cheap. Couldn't even have forged a design or something into it? I mean, if Eastern can do it, why not Kona? As it stands it looks like something Poverty made back in 2003...

the lacondeguy frame is very nice built up except the headtube.Does anyone of you know the geo on the lacondeguy frame?P.S.:i think the 09/08 shonky had a very long TT
The price is a ridiculously low $899!!!!! where can you get this spec with Kona quality for $899.........................Nowhere, I'll save you the time looking. Come on People!
eastern traildigger 26" goes for $400 aus, and in my opinion, it is a better fame and has everything this bike has. "where can you get this spec with Kona quality for $899.........................Nowhere, I'll save you the time looking. Come on People!" -Mxnate

I'm not the one to cry about weight, I would rather spend the money and some nice strong metal pedals then to spend money when a plastic snapes in half and there's no more riding
