Easton Havoc DH Stem

Posted: May 13, 2009

We're big fans of products that work, and after testing the Havoc AM Wheels, we knew Easton had their stuff together. The Havoc DH stem is a basic OS stem that has simple features, and a clean design. It's strong, reliable, and comes with a sweet warranty to back it all up. Offered in 3 different lengths, and 1 rise, Easton has the basics covered for riders looking for a new stem.

Last season we tested the Havoc AM wheels, but we were super stoked on them. They were well built, well thought out, and strong, 3 things that I think the industry should focus on. Like Rich Houseman said "Easton products are not the lightest around, but they are strong, and run true." I couldn't have said it any better myself.

The Havoc AM wheels held up great, and we expect nothing less from the new Havoc DH stem. Recently we got our hands on one of these stems, so here's some information on it. Starting with a block of 6061 Aluminum Easton has forged and CNC Machined the Havoc DH stem down to a weight of 182 grams for the 50mm version. Easton offers 50mm, 65mm, and 80mm lengths, which keeps the door open for taller, short, less or more aggressive riders. It features 10 degrees of rise, with a 31.8mm OS clamp diameter.

The Havoc DH stem is only offered in black. It has very minimalist graphics on it, for a super clean look. Easton has machined their logo into the face plate of the Havoc DH stem to ensure spectators know what you're running. Easton offers a limited 5 year warranty with the Havoc DH stem in case something goes sideways with your stem, Easton will straighten it out for you.

Easton was kind enough to put tightening tensions on the inside of the Havoc DH stem the ensure everyone keeps their stems tight. The Havoc DH stem is a fairly basic stem, but if you're in the market for something that's strong, reliable, and backed by a good warranty you should take a look at Easton's Havoc line up.

maybe if they got rid of the ugly looking easton symbol on the clamp and lazar etched it on they could save some more weight and make if more visually appealing...

i like it, at the end of the day, it's only a stem. for the everyday rider it's hard to get excited about something that's hardly going to improve your performance by a measurable amount, different matter for the pro's really, looks a good piece of kit though (Y)

90 % of stems on the market are solid or super solid, so that isn't anything special

Nice stem, but I personally support and favor Thomson products to anyone else on the market.

thomson aren't durable enough. too weight weenie. once a re-tapped my stem with more aggressive threads and used steel bolts it was so much better.

This stem is a major fail, it's not that light compared to point one racing, and looks horrible like 2005 truvativ. Why can't you design more knee freindly stems?

Quality piece of kit, but one hell of a late arrival (not much, just a couple of years!!)

Easton keeps poiting at traditional, old fashion looking stems when the market and the consumers ask for direct mount stems!

No match for Straitline or Point One stems!

I have a couple of these. Its a basic stem that gets the job done.It may not be flashy as some others out there, but i picked them up on a closeout for $25 each. Can't beat that.

Looks pretty boring like 90% of easton's products. I'll stick to something thats looks nicer and does the sam job like chromag or Thompson. Can't beat Thompson.

This stem is fail. Ugly, heavy, and weak. The threads on mine stripped out in less than a year.

i have had my easton vice for like 3 years now and its worked great and the good thing about easton stems is they are usually pretty cheap and they may be simple but they get the job done so who gives a shit i say nice stem

182g is actually quite light for a dh stem, I had one with 25,4 diameter and it was working great.

I just picked one up, 50mm x 25.4 and it was 160 grams. Essentially same weight as the Thomson X4. Sure the point 1 might be lighter but it is WAY more expensive. I found a couple of online shops blowing these out for $25USD right now. You can't beat that.
