Fancy clothes and Carbon helmets

Fox Clothing makes some pretty fancy riding gear including helmets, protection, and race kits. Recently when we were in Whistler for Crankworx we got a chance to see some of the new kits. So, without further ado here is a sneak peak at the 2010 Fox Clothing lineup, including their all new Carbon Composite V3R helmet!

Fox has invested a fair amount of time into the overall appearance of their clothing line up this year, along with breath-ability and comfort. For 2010, Fox Clothing has taken a more flashy approach to their lineup of clothing, which in turn makes the rider stand out more, something some riders are looking for. Fox has not only released a couple new shorts and kit combinations, but they have released the all new V3R helmet, Fox's first step into Carbon helmets.

Clothing:

Fox has added a couple new color schemes to the Ultimatum short, one of Fox's premier freeride shorts. You have probably seen Cam McCaul rocking out in this kit. Compiled of pink, yellow, blue, black, and white Fox has come up with this ultra flashy graphic. With a ton of hidden Fox logos and text, this kit is sure to help you waste time on the way up the hill, or just waiting for the perfect time to hit that line.

Sharing the same complex graphic design the all new V3R Carbon Composite helmet from Fox is a CPSC and ASTM approved helmet designed for use on mountain bikes. Based off the V3 Motocross helmet shell the V3R has been lightened up to 1180 grams (+/- 50 grams) for a size medium, re-decaled, and re-designed to protect your brain when riding your mountain bike, while still providing a better price point than contenders at $379.95.

The V3R features a multi-channel EPS liner that corresponds with Fox's smart venting system. This venting system consists of 10 intake ports and 4 exhaust, strategically placed on the helmet. Fox has put some of the intakes in clever spots, such as on the forehead, on the cheek portion of the mouth guard, and along the top of the opening. These intake vents are also adjustable, so you can control which vents are open and closed. This multi-channel system is all covered in a Coolmax comfort liner that is removable.

Aside from the protection factor of the V3R, the overall design is based around being useful to the rider. A wide eye port ensures that the rider has tons of peripheral vision, and a removable mouthpiece makes cleaning the V3R a breeze. The graphics are complex but not too flashy. They are infused with words and sayings, labeled the Type-O Negative graphic. The strap up system is the classic double loop system with a snap enclosure to keep the strap out of your face.

i have the v3 and the d2 the v3 is big like a moto helmet because it is and the d2 is a dh/bmx specific helmet that may not be used for moto if you compare the v3 to the tld se or se2 they are very similar

The problem with fox helmets is that they don't seem to have enough vents. I have a Specialized Deviant carbon that practically looks like a road lid, and it's still pretty hot.

flag airbornmtnbiker (Aug 25, 2009 at 21:53)
for 379 i'd rather get a troy lee designs carbon lid, in my opinion they look way sicker and they're about 50 cheaper than that, too

If you zoom close enough you can see the designers name on the 360 SS Jersey - Don Johnson and Knight Rider from the 80's. I've seen the 80's - don't bring the style back Big Grin

I'm loving all the '80s stuff coming back, but then I didn't see the 80s.

I'm definitely a fan of the kit, not so much of the helmet.

flag nirvhana (Aug 25, 2009 at 8:35)
the 80's were horrible. the cloths the hair, the glasses, most of the music. im glad they are over, but am not excited about them coming back. this gear is pretty cool though. way better than the gear in the 80;s thats for sure.

The outfits are wayyyyy too busy. On their own they're okay, but I wouldn't buy any of them. The lid is really awesome. It's also busy, but just BxW so it'll match with a lot of kits.

They are WAYYYY to busy because that's what kids want these days. Just look at everything else! Plastered in graphics and logos. And guess what IT SELLS. Whether you like it or not, Fox is going to dominate the MTB world, they could probably market their own BOBBLE heads and people would buy them. I like the helmet however it's going to be over-priced along with the clothing. So be prepared for jaw-dropping exhorbitant prices at your retailers!

everyone who doesnt like the colours go buy a black pair of shorts and then when your fast enough, stylish enough to pull that kit off you can go buy it, both uni's look awesome cant wait to get hold of it. Its about time someone stepped up to the table to push boring drab mtb clothing in the right direction. Rock on Fox always leading the way. In 1 year maybe everyone will have caught up. Dont chavs wear burbary??

Helmet is the dogs BxxxxX awesome paint job and cheap if you compare to a D2

I am gonna start growing a mullet, so I can rock sick uni's too! Then maybe some day when I'm fast enough, stylish enough, and have been to enough dragraces and mudboggs, I can wear loud Rainbow Bright stuff like you.

S**t is whack!
  • + 0
flag bobon (Aug 25, 2009 at 13:06)
you dont have to go to drag races and mud bogs to be fast just practice. cant comment on them really as ive never been to either a drag race or mudbog, so i wouldn't know, i have been to few MX and DH races though and mullets are so last year if you wore fox you would know that, i had one but is was far too much maintenance.
