Mick Hannah on Mongoose

Posted: Oct 24, 2008
Mongoose today announced the new 2009 Mongoose mountain bike team. Eric Carter will continue to fly on the ‘Goose and DH phenom Mick Hannah returns to mountain bike racing as part of the Mongoose team. Mongoose will continue to support the freeride scene with talented riders such as Steve Romaniuk, Andrew Cho and Garett Buehler.
Mountain biking legend, Eric Carter, continues to fly the ‘Goose flag. Eric, dubbed as “EC” at Mongoose, has certainly had his fair share of titles and wins throughout his years riding for Mongoose. EC’s focus these days will be to support the sport and the Mongoose brand through his involvement with developing trails, supporting events (like the 12 miles of Ashland) and helping to run Mongoose demos and rides at shops around the country.
Mick Hannah’s return to mountain biking is exciting for the entire mountain bike community and Mongoose is proud to be a part of his comeback. After tearing up the 2007 World Cup scene, Mick’s absence in 2008 left everyone wondering what his future would be. Mick will be back in 2009 to show off his superb racing skills on the new 2009 Mongoose platform and will attend all of the World Cup races, Crankworx, US Open and some other select races in between.
“I’m really excited to start racing again in 2009. I enjoyed my year off but couldn’t stay away from racing. I did a race a few weeks ago and was very encouraged by the way I was riding. I've got my focus back. I’m really happy to be involved with Mongoose,” said Hannah. “I turned down a few offers so I could partner with a company that has one of the most professional teams on the circuit and a great product development staff to work with. I feel confident that this season will be one of my best.”
“I’ve admired Mick’s skills at absolutely pinning it and his professional approach to the sport. Prior to Mick’s signing the two of us discussed our individual approaches to bike development and testing and I quickly realized how much of an asset he can be to our product development process,” said Darren Salsbury, Director of Mongoose Product Development. “It’s not often you can combine athletic prowess with the ability to deliver technically relevant feedback on designs. I’m confident Mongoose bikes are going to continue to progress and refine with Mick’s input.”
Mongoose continues to support the freeride category by resigning Steve Romaniuk and bringing aboard fresh talent such as Garett Buehler and Andrew Cho. All three of the riders will be riding the ‘Goose’s stable of bikes such as the Nugget, Boot’r and Pinn’r and will be hitting up select freeride events and video shoots all year.

big ups. i don't know what they're tryin to prove. mick hannah's dope. mongoose ain't. maybe he'll turn it around. but it's hard to fight back after a reputation like the one they've built up in the last ten years.
why did he stop riding for cannondale? i get that he took a year off but i'd imagine they would let him back, he was their best rider.
I just want to know, the people that are slating mongoose bikes... have you ever riden their higher end bikes? If not, you have nothing to go by, by saying they arnt good.
I do not care if they make cheap stuff as I am interested in their top bikes. Also, I get the fact that they need to earn money and that is one of the ways to do it.
plus there wal mart bikes are made buy pacific cycles mongoose just sold the name. the top end bikes and wa mart bikes DONT go hand in hand! i think they make a pretty nice ride and hope to see hannah put some good finishes down on the goose!
atleast there trying to improve. people keep ripping on mongoose bce they have deals with walmart, but if they didn't have these business deals with them, there wouldnt be a mongoose. prolly 95% of their revenue is from the low end bikes. honestly how many people go out and buy a 4000$ mongoose daily? it just doesnt happen.
on the other hand, i would ride a mongoose, they have an amazing spec and a very low retail. (low retail because they sell a shit load of cheap bikes)

Just to play Devil's Advocate here, but Iron Horse in the same boat as Mongoose, selling crappy $200 bikes at Sport Check. However, I don't hear people ripping on on the Sunday because of that.
Mongoose Boot'r, ECD, ritual, etc isn't sold at walmart it is only through bike dealers. Sony sells TV's at walmart but not their XBR series, that is an exclussive product for a select dealer that knows the product....same idea but somehow it doesn't translate to some bike people.
also there is SRAM, Shimano and Rock Shox on bikes at walmart, does that mean some people won't ride their stuff either.

Agreeing with stever.. Iron Horse does sell cheap ass bikes at Sport Chek. I was gonna say the same thing about the Sunday.
i don't see why people hate, neethling schraples all the world cups on mongoose. i guess people care more about the name and image of their bikes rather than the performance of their bike?
Yea, look at the price on the bootr/ecd. They component spec alone costs about $3300. Selling walmart bikes enables mongoose to put a lot of money into design and testing and make a great frame and still retain an awesome price. A comparable build and frame from another company would be like $5000-$6000, so don't rag on the 'goose becsue it's a really well put together and fun bike
that's probably because you've only ridden low went one. For f*ck sakes will someone kick these ignorant sluts off here?
I don't even know where I can go to try a high-end Mongoose but I certainly would like to.

for the high price points of the "upper-end" mongooses you are better off going with a more reputable company like scott or specialized or something.
they cater for more than one market thats no reason not to trust them. i mean look at some of specializeds and giants low end bikes
true true. but even the lowest end specialized or giant is far better than a wal-mart class mongoose.
yah i agree mongoose is starting to get baller. every company has there low end bikes. so u wouldnt trust an iron horse sunday world cup just because low end bikes bikes are also sold at k mart.
people seem to forget that not every one can afford a 4k downhill bike. 200$ wallmart bikes give a lot of people that normally could not afford even a new bike a chance to have one and ride around. I think its great mongoose caters to the extreme low end... and also rapes the high end. People forget that the old high end mongoose bmx race frames were dope.
I wonder how many people remember the brian lopes designed 20in 3 speed race bmx frame. On top of that it was a soft tail with I think 1-3 inches of travel. Revolutionary for the time.
Mongoose has stood the test of time that MANY other companies have not. Gotta remember there up there in age along with GT (which was another big player in the growth of the bike scene).
Anyways thats my 2 cents.

I've seen their bikes!!! Their not bad and now a days I think lots of bike geometries and designs are becoming more unified.

the boot'r is an amazing piece of kit for the money and its good to see mongoose back with ore diverse riders especially romo and mick.

love the guys who complians about mongoose being at walmart .its a big compagny many division there out to make money ,they do good bike for real mtbiking so stop complaining and try the bike ,
I agree there there to make money and that is not a bad thing. If you do not agree do not buy one. You do have a choice and also the right to voice your opinion. But I do agree with the people that say don't knock it till you try it.
didnt hannah do some testing for that mythic legend mk1 i thought he would of been racing on that coz its fairly nice

back in the day they made awesome bmx bikes with mags if you took one to school you had the nicest bike there but that was 10 years ago or so

i have a mongoose ritual street and the frame is fine... its completely different then the walmart bikes!!!
I think mongoose are gr8 ive got one myself, but their top bikes are really good.Eric Carter is still a gr8 legend (^-*,)>
mongoose is a great company. i've got the khyber and my bro just got one. performed amazingly well at northstar and mammoth this summer. don't knock 'em 'till you ride 'em.
Steve Romaniak dropped a 35' drop on a mongoose. Check out the new Decline or Kranked 7 to see it. Must be built pretty damn solid.
i only ride mongoose the only damage ive ever had on one was my own doing these bikes DONT BREAK and i cnt wait for the 09 to be sitting in my garage !!!!!
mongoose thinks that if they up their prices then they will get a higer status. thats why all the prices of their bikes went up like 500-800 dollars
dude their top end dh bikes rank up there with demos and vpp's. They ride awsome as hell... especially for the cost.
Look at the component list and you will see why it went up in price.

They didn't just "up their prices", read their spec list. Now find ANY bike with a similar spec list(good luck) and compare their list...

Hating on Mongoose because they sell low-level bikes at walmart doesn't make sense to me.
It's like saying "GM makes entry level cars like the Aveo, so I'd never buy a Cadillac"
It's like saying "GM makes entry level cars like the Aveo, so I'd never buy a Cadillac"
Yeah, for heaven's sake take an English class. You wrote 8 words and 4 of them are spelled wrong! Also, you are going for "they're" meaning 'they are' NOT their!! Go suck a fat one, LaChance.
There were a bunch of people demoing some of the new mongoose bikes at Highland today and the were absolutely ripping... I didn't hear them saying anything bad about the bikes.....
okay their prolly good, but i dont wanna hear it i dont like mongoose, kona, or norco whether or not they'r good
How many different company do you think are out there making frames? Do you think Specialized makes their own frames? Almost all high end bikes are made out of the same factor. So saying one frame is sh*t, is more than likely saying the bike you ride that is maded from the same factor is sh*t. Just ride your bike and have fun. If you don't want to buy a brand don't.
That's false, most high end race bikes are made by the company. They are not generic frames. Lower end Fs bikes are. I can guarantee you my Cannondale Judge was Hand build in Pennsylvania.
The new mongoose looks good. My mate will be riding for them this season and he says it looks like a good solid race bike
new MoNGooSe bikes are schweet...props to 'em for not settling and only selling the wally world wheels.... i would rather see someone enjoying themselves on one of the low end moNgOOse bikes than not riding at all... bikes are bikes...ride whatcha like. peace
cannondales are not made in pennsylvania. they spend more money sanding painting, and finishing them in pennsylvania that they get to say they're made there. even though they're welded in some factory in taiwan. just like almost every other bike in the world
Thanks, can anyone say Giant. They are biggest high end frame cmpany around. Almost anything high end that reads Made in Taiwan is made out of the Giant plant. How some companies get around this is, "designing" the frame in Canada or the US, having the frame welded in Taiwan and than painting and building up the bike in Canada/US. Yes there are still some Canadian and US built bikes but not alot these days,

mongoose ja foi mais bike, agora e muito paia!obs:nao vou traduzir essa merda pois to com preguiça!!heheheh
Everything sucks to somebody. Like all these people saying that Mongoose sucks well the haters suck. Hell Santa Cruz sucks as bad as Specialized. I ride a Devinci and I love it but the idiots will tell me that it sucks. It's not about the ride but about the rider.
Too right Mick will ride anything fast. however at DH races when I see an pinner on an ECD they look smooth, light, quiet and fast and I think I should have a ride of one someday.
yea id ride a boot'r those things look sick ..... also steve rominiuk rides for mongoose i think....its what i heard in the new decline

Bootr, one of the best bikes I have ever been on!!!! I am glad they make the walmart bikes because R&D has made this a bike for everyone.
With all due respect i just sarted doing DH a few months ago and actually bought an Mongoose Boot'r. Two more weeks and will receive it.
One thing i can't understand is why people give their opinion without trying a product. That pretty useless and stupid.
After reading five comments and realize most of you is just cheap talk with no knowledge at all. I don't have any knowledge of what the bike gonna be but seems to be a awesome ride for people like me just starting.
My point..................
Get a life :-)

They look like they are slightly improving. I can just never trust a bike company that sells a 4-5 grand DH platform and a 200$ walmart bike with 4 inch rotors. Great riders on it though
