US Open of MTB - Friday

Today was qualifying for the Giant Slalom and riders were getting up to speed fast. The rain held off even though it looked like it was going to pour, which is a nice treat for the riders not having to do laps on a wet course.

Check out inside for some photos from today's event...

As stated in the previous article many riders are wrecking themselves on the final jump here at the US Open DH course. Today a rider was taken out on a full on stretcher, and so far nothing has been mentioned about him/her. Hopefully all is good! Yesterdays rider that got heli lifted out was on course today with a few scuffs and a busted arm. Pretty lucky for someone who had to get flown out!

Some riders were doing DH laps while others were doing Giant Slalom course runs and preparing for the qualifying today. Ian Hylands was on location the Giant Slalom course to shoot some nuggets during qualifying while Fraser Britton was out shooting the DH course. Here are a few of their shots from the event!

The final image to this article sums up just how fast Mitch Ropelato was on course today. He was one of a few riders rocking out on a hardtail, and clearly he was making it work himself. He qualified first today, meaning he will drop last tomorrow. No pressure Mitch!

Stay tuned here for more photos from tomorrows Giant Slalom finals and Downhill qualifiers, along with more unique content from the US Open of Mountain biking here at Diablo Freeride Park.

I'm pretty sure Mitch is the only one in those pics with one hand completely off the brake levers.
